What is pronation?
This is a key word associated with running circles. It is the inward roll of the foot, when the heel strikes. It is a natural motion and is the bodies way of cushioning.
What is overpronation?
When the feet roll inwards too much. The foot tends to have low arches.
What is supination or underpronation?
Opposite to pronation - when the feet do not roll inwards enough. These people tend to land on the outside of the shoe and have high arches.
What should I do?
Basically if you do not pronate you need a cushioned shoe. If you look at your shoes the wear would be even on heel and fore foot and your arch is normal to high. If the wear on your shoes are on the right of the heel and along the inside of the back of the foot and you have low to flat arches you will need a structured cushioning shoe. We have divided our shoe choices into 3 categories.
Structured Cushioning
For mild to moderate overpronators who need a combination of quality cushioning and support. This type of shoe is the most popular category and accounts for 70% of most running shoe sales.
Cushioned shoes
These shoes tend to have soft midsoles and do not offer any medial support. Ideal for the runner with a natural gait. They help to lessen the shock of the impact from heel and toe of the shoe.
Motion Control
People who excessively pronate and have very flat feet may consider these shoes. These shoes offer a greater deal of medial support, bigger, flatter soles and good cushioning for impact of the foot striking. These people tend to be heavier and have very flat feet with no arch.
